Novel--and "neu"--therapeutic possibilities for heart failure.

چکیده
dverse effects of pharmacotherapeutics in patients rarely ead to novel therapies in animal models of disease. In this ssue of the Journal, however, Liu et al. (1) provide a emarkable case of such “bedside-to-bench” research: they emonstrate that neuregulin-1 therapy substantially mitiates heart failure in infarct-, viral-, anthracycline-, nd pacing-induced models that employ rodents and dogs— xperimental proofs of concept critical for launching human tudies. The discovery by Liu et al. (1) derived, in part, from he observation that trastuzumab (Herceptin) therapy for reast cancer engenders cardiomyopathy (2). Why does

Investigating the anti-apoptotic effect of sesame oil and honey in a novel nanostructure form for treatment of heart failure
Objective(s): Sesame oil is a lipophilic compound and has low aqueous solubility and low oral bioavailability. It is possible to enhance sesame oil solubility in aqueous media by applying the microemulsion system in the form of oil-in-water. In this study, the anti-cholesterol and anti-Apoptotic effects of a new combination of sesame oil and honey in a microemulsion form for cardiac muscle cell...
متن کاملEmerging Drug Therapies for Heart Failure
Heart failure is associated with high morbidity and mortality and is proving to be an economic burden in developing countries. A number of therapeutic agents are presently employed in heart failure; but they are not sufficient to control symptoms of heart failure. Moreover, the prevalence of chronic heart failure is progressively increasing and thus there is a continuing need to develop effecti...
متن کاملOleylethanolamide activates Ras-Erk pathway and improves myocardial function in doxorubicin-induced heart failure.
Oleylethanolamide (OEA) is a natural fatty acid ethanolamide produced in the heart, but its biological actions in myocardium have not yet been defined. This study was carried out to determine whether OEA could be used to prevent the development of heart failure or improve evolving heart failure. We studied in vivo and in vitro actions of OEA in cardiac muscle. In an animal model of doxorubicin ...
متن کاملApoptosis: from Signalling Pathways to Therapeutic Tools
Apoptosis or programmed cell death is a gene regulated phenomenon which is important in both physiological and pathological conditions. It is characterized by distinct morphological features including chromatin condensation, cell and nuclear shrinkage, membrane blebbing and oligonucleosomal DNA fragmentation. Although, two major apoptotic pathways including 1) the death receptor (extrinsic) and...
متن کاملApelin: A promising therapeutic target? (Part 1)
Apelin is a recently discovered bioactive peptide, known to be an endogenous high-affinity ligandfor the previously orphan G protein-coupled receptor APJ. Apelin/APJ as a novel signaling pathwayhas been shown to play many crucial roles in cardiovascular function, blood pressure regulation, fluidhomeostasis, feeding behavior, obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, adipoinsular axis regulation, cellp...
